WELCOME TO THE SAN MARCOS AMATEUR RADIO CLUB
San Marcos, California

SMARC was founded on March 23, 2010, in an effort to bring together amateur radio operators in San Marcos and surrounding cities. Our purpose is to develop a group of operators who are proficient in message handling and emergency communications, to exchange technical knowledge, educate new operators, sharpen our on the air skills, and have fun with amateur radio.

CLUB BIOGRAPHY
History:
Early in the year 2010 a small group of people came together with common interests in amateur radio. Many of us met through the Citizen's Corps CERT program. Some of us were already "Hams"; those who were not soon realized the importance, functionality, and utility of amateur radio. More and more CERT volunteers earned their Ham grant. On May 27, 2010 those radio operators came together in the common interest of amateur radio to form what we have today, the San Marcos Amateur Radio Club.

About Amateur Radio:
Ham radio, as it is often called, is a hobby. It is a non-commercial radio communication service whose primary aims is public service, technical training, experimenting with radio electronics, and the leisure communication between private persons. Ham operators are noted for providing communications in times of an emergency or disaster. Ham radio exists in nearly every country and on the same frequencies. This allows amateur radio operator to communicate internationally. In the United States, Amateur Radio is regulated by the Federal Communications Commission. An Amateur operator must hold a valid license, issued by the F.C.C.
